2015 Pan American Juniors

Congratulations to Erin Dietz on winning GOLD for Team USA in the 3000m at the Pan American Junior Championships in Edmonton, Canada!

erin dietz

Erin Dietz

BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL, SENIOR

Erin made the decision to challenge her fellow competitors, two athletes from Canada and two athletes from Peru, with an aggressive and risky racing strategy from the start. She focused on making the 7.5 lap race a grueling effort and with the aid of several changes of pace, Erin opened up a two second lead over the field with three laps remaining. Over the last three laps, Erin extended her lead to 4 seconds over silver medalist Mirelle Martens of Canada, reaching the finish in 9:37.51 (just 1/10th off her 3000m PR). Erin lead all 3000m of the race from the starter’s gun to the finish tape.

2015 USATF New England Athlete of the Month

Erin Dietz

BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL, SENIOR

Erin Dietz of Bedford, MA, was named USA Track & Field New England (USATF-NE)'s Athlete of the Month for June 2015. On June 28 at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Erin placed 2nd in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:37.41. This qualified her for the Pan American Junior Championships which will be held in Edmonton, Alberta July 31 to August 2. Erin also finished 3rd in the 5000 meters at the USATF Junior meet, running a personal best of 16:36.16.
The week before, on June 19, Dietz finished 2nd in the 5000 at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, NC, with a time of 16:38.17. Erin began her month of stellar performances during the first week of June, when she won the Massachusetts Division 3 mile in a PB of 4:56.91, then three days later placed 3rd in Massachusetts All State mile, running 4:58.91. Erin will attend Harvard University this fall.

Erin Dietz

BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL, SENIOR

Congratualtions to Erin Dietz on her recent performances at USATF Junior National Outdoor Championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene, OR. Erin raced the 5000m on Friday and the 3000m on Saturday. Despite the record heat on Friday, Erin made a concerted push to separate herself from the field and finished in 3rd place overall running 16:36.16 (her second 5000m PR in a week) as well as the top high school athlete in the race. On Saturday evening, Erin raced in the 3000m race. Sensing that the heat was slowing the pace, Erin accelerated to the front of the field after 700m and didn't look back. She quickened the pace on each of the final five laps, securing the 2nd place finish and a huge 3000m PR. Erin's efforts earned her a place on Team USA at the Pan-Am Championships in Edmonton at the end of July, her first national team berth.

BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL, SENIOR

Despite an hour meet delay, a two hour lightning delay and a last minute decision by racing officials to combine the two sections of the Girls 5000m Championship Race into one section, Erin handled the off-the-track distractions by focusing on the task at hand: finding a good rhythm and racing. Erin raced to a PR of 16:38.17 in the 5000m, finishing in 2nd place and capturing her second consecutive All-American Honors.
